‘Canyon Time’ reflects back on one of the older themes of video art: time. The film seeks to dramatize the contrast between the slow moving time of the natural world and the fleetingness of the human moment. Close-ups of disease in plants – which show the organisms as both alive and dead, between times and states – juxtapose with images that capture the brief life of a moment of experience or interaction between people. The piece explores the medium’s ability to make time palpable, and is one of my first works of video art.
